What are database driven web sites?
Many ecommerce web sites will be data driven, the products for sale coming from a database on the server and the resultant display pages being created on the fly. This allows additional features to be installed within the site such as intelligent searching allowing visitors to search for exactly what they want.
Database driven web sites are not limited to ecommerce sites however, imagine you have a business display web site that won't change that much and doesn't have ecommerce functionality. You could still have a partly database driven web site for certain pages such as a News Page, Links Page, What's New Page or Holiday Accommodation Availability Page. This is known as a Content Management System or CMS.
The benefit to this is that you won't need to contact the designer every time you want to make a change to the text on the page. Your site information will always have new content to attract repeat visitors.
